A CITY MP has spoken of the ‘huge’ financial pressures councils across the country are facing.

The warning came from Stephen Morgan, the Labour MP for Portsmouth South, as he took part in a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee at the House of Commons this week.

Mr Morgan, who is also a councillor for the city’s Charles Dickens ward, said the committee and the National Audit Office were ‘not convinced’ the government’s Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government ‘understood’ the issue of financial sustainability of local services.

The PAC meets every Monday at 4.30pm and every Wednesday at 3.30pm.
