Councils join forces to offer Sussex residents cheaper energy

HOMEOWNERS are being urged to switch energy suppliers regularly by a unified team of councils to save money.

Authorities across Sussex have today revealed a new ‘competitively-priced’ gas and energy supply through Your Energy Sussex, a council energy partnership led by West Sussex County Council.

The aim is to encourage more people to switch and save money on their energy bills – as much as £300 per year on average.

According to figures from Ofgem, only 25 per cent of households compared their energy costs and switched supplier in the past year. That means more than 500,000 households in Sussex could be paying too much for their gas and electricity.

Councillor Deborah Urquhart, West Sussex County Council’s environment boss, said: ‘Your Energy Sussex is different to other energy companies. It will give residents good customer service and a fair deal on their gas and electricity year after year while helping to support residents at risk of fuel poverty.’
