County council to pledge £500,000

HALF a million pounds is being invested into parish and town councils in Hampshire to help them get new projects off the ground.

Hampshire County Council has earmarked £500,000 into a new Parish and Town Council Investment Fund, which can be used to provide or enhance infrastructure, support local communities and fund training to deliver new services.

Leader of Hampshire County Council, Cllr Roy Perry, said: '˜We've set up the Parish and Town Council Investment Fund to encourage innovation at a local level by supporting local councils to get the knowledge and equipment they need to help them look at fresh ways in which they might run a greater number of community based projects themselves.

'˜Parish and town councils work closely with their communities; crucially, they have the local knowledge and expertise to know what their neighbourhoods need and how best to drive initiatives forward.'
