D-Day expert to give talk on conflict in Portsmouth

ONE of the country's leading experts on D-Day - Dr Simon Trew - is coming to the D-Day Museum to give a talk.

His talk - ‘LCG(L), LCF, LCA(HR) and other mysterious beasts: the role of minor fire support vessels during the 1944 Normandy campaign’ - will address the role specialist fire support landing craft played on D-Day to assist the troops as they landed.

Dr Trew is a member of the Department of War Studies at the Royal Military Academy, he’s appeared in many documentaries and programmes focused on D-Day and the Battle of Normandy and led many battlefield tours in Normandy. He’s also written many books on the campaign including ‘D-Day and the Battle of Normandy: The Photographic History’.

Dr Trew said: ‘I am very pleased to be speaking at the D-Day Museum in Southsea. The talk will be based on my recent research, including the archives of the D-Day Museum, and are aimed at anyone with an interest in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy.’
