HOLES in a section of Southsea’s promenade and flood defence barrier have now been filled in – but the area is still set to be closed off for some time.

Leftover granite rocks from work being done to improve the sea wall in the north of the city have been used to plug gaps created after a bout of torrential weather over the Christmas weekend.

Council leader Donna Jones said it may be another ‘two to three weeks’ before the area is reopened to the public as it’s not safe and the promenade will need tarmacking.

She said larger rocks from Cornwall are still due to be delivered on Monday to prop up the sea wall on the beach side.
