Date set for voters to replace fraudster councillor

THE date of a by-election has been set after a fraudster councillor quit.

George Ringrow, former Tory councillor for Fareham Town at Hampshire County Council, avoided jail for a £32,000 benefit fraud last month.

Ringrow, 67, of Paxton Road, Fareham has paid back all of the money to the Department for Work and Pensions.

But now voters in the division will go to the polls on May 5.

People must register for a postal vote by April 19 and proxy votes must be registered by April 26.
