THOUSANDS of pounds worth of community grants are up for grabs.

East Hampshire District Council’s new Community Forums are offering local groups the chance to apply for up to £500 to give their projects a flying start.

The Community Forums were restyled this year to make them more effective at tackling community issues.

Now organisers are looking for local people to come forward with schemes and ideas that need a financial boost.

The £500 grants can be given to one-off projects that can demonstrate a clear benefit to the wider community.

Subject to meeting the criteria groups can apply for up to 50 per cent of the project cost.

Community and voluntary organisations can apply with the help of one of council’s project workers.

Cllr Hilary Ayer said: ‘The new Community Forums are tailored to give local people even more power over their own neighbourhoods.

‘These grants are an ideal way to kick-start a project that could be felt across the whole area.’
