EU debate held on Hayling Island

POLITICIANS gave their views on the EU referendum at a debate held in Hayling Island.

Around 50 people attended the public meeting, where members of the Labour, Liberal Democrat, Green and Socialist parties gave their thoughts on both the Remain and Leave campaigns.

The event, held on Saturday at the Royal Shades pub, saw a change in people’s views before and after the debate.

Michael Evans, campaign organiser for the Stakes and Purbrook Labour Party, said: ‘We did a vote before and after the meeting. Before, it was leaning towards leaving the EU but by the end there was quite a significant lead for remaining.

‘We like to hold these sort of public meetings and I think people liked hearing the different opinions on the referendum.’
