Forces Support, in High Street, Fareham is a charity that supports military families. But on Monday, a less-than-charitable message was found spray-painted across the shop’s roof.

Chris Hall, 32, manager of Verelle Hairdressing, West Street saw the graffiti and went to alert the manager of Forces Support.

He said: ‘It’s important to look out for other local businesses, I’m just disappointed because it’s not what you would expect to happen to a charity shop.’

Once they were told, Forces Support decided to take action.

Branch manager Carol Hunt, 35, said: ‘As soon as we had seen the graffiti ourselves we phoned the police and they said they were going to take a statement.

‘It’s disappointing, especially as it is a charity and we are working hard to get donations in.

‘We do not want to have to spend money cleaning graffiti.’

But Mrs Hunt says she has been buoyed by the response on Facebook.

She said: ‘Thanks to people sharing our Facebook post, we have had people offer to clean it for us for free.’

Adam Darby, from Gosport, has donated cleaning equipment to the charity after seeing the social media post.

Mrs Hunt said: ‘Only since working for this charity have I realised the extent of the public’s generosity.

‘I hope we manage to catch the people who did it.’

Police are investigating. Call 101 with any information.
