Fareham councillor guilty of racism is axed from committees

At last night’s full Fareham Borough Council meeting, Cllr David Whittingham was removed from all the committees he sits on as well as being stripped of vice-chairman role of the appeals committee.

He was part of the Streetscene policy development and review panel as well as a reserve for the health and housing policy development and review panel.

As previously reported in The News, Cllr Whittingham who is now an independent, was investigated by the borough council’s complaints panel after it was alleged he went on a racist rant during a conversation with three housing officers.

The Fareham North West representative was found guilty of the offences by the council’s complaint panel.

The minutes of the meeting were presented at the full council meeting.

Council leader Sean Woodward said: ‘Cllr Whittingham’s actions were unacceptable. I am pleased with the way the council dealt with the situation.’

Cllr Whittingham had to write a letter of apology, saw his access to the civic offices removed for two months and had to undergo training.
