THE minority group on Fareham Borough Council has chosen a new leader.

The council’s Liberal Democrats have elected councillor Jim Forrest as their new leader after councillor Roger Price decided to step down from the role.

Cllr Forrest, who represents Stubbington, has been the Lib Dem spokesman on leisure and community since 2006.

He was elected as deputy leader last year.

Cllr Price will continue to serve as deputy leader, and Fareham East councillor Paul Whittle is the group’s treasurer and co-ordinator.

Cllr Forrest praised his predecessor and said: ‘It’s a great honour to succeed Roger Price, who has given so much to Fareham as leader of the council and twice as its mayor.

‘As the only opposition party on Fareham Council, we in the Liberal Democrats have a great responsibility to scrutinise all council decisions rigorously to ensure they serve the best interests of Fareham’s residents.’
