Fareham MP to demand answers about health trust during parliamentary debate

Ms Fernandez has secured a 90-minute Commons debate from 2.30pm.

It comes after a catalogue of failings at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, which provides mental health services across Hampshire.

In April, the former chairman, Mike Petter, stood down the day before a report into the trust was published following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC inspected Southern Health after an independent review raised serious concerns about the trust.

Inspectors found that the trust had not put in place robust governance arrangements to investigate incidents, including deaths.

Effective arrangements had not been put in place to identify, record or respond to concerns about patient safety.

And inspectors had serious concerns about the safety of patients with mental health problems and learning disabilities.

Ahead of the debate, Ms Fernandez told the BBC: ‘The important thing is remembering what this is all about – the patients and the families affected.

‘They understandably want answers.

‘They want to see action.

‘I will be talking about some of the stories of people who have been directly affected.

‘I will be chronicling the long history of failings of Southern Health.’
