As previously reported in The News, Miss Fernandes is backing the Brexit campaign along with Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt.

Portsmouth South MP Flick Drummond and Havant MP will be voting to stay in the EU.

Caroline Dinenage, the Gosport MP, is undecided.

At the informal debate, held at The Red Lion in Fareham, both sides of the debate were heard.

University of Portsmouth student Alex Ward said although he was sitting on the fence, if he had to chose he would back Britain remaining in the EU.

He said: ‘For me, it is the cons of each arrangement rather than the positives. The cons of leaving are far worse than staying in.’

But for Miss Fernandes and fellow out supporter Tom Fyfe, the EU is outdated.

She said: ‘I feel that we have a great opportunity to break out from the
interference that we get from the EU.’

Meon Valley MP George Hollingbery, who is yet to make public his preferred option, also chaired a discussion on the same subject in Botley last night.

He is holding another event in Horndean on March 18 at Horndean Technology College, at 7.30pm.
