The parliamentary debate was called following an online petition to parliament, which collected over 120,000 signatures. MPs, including Fareham’s Suella Fernandes, urged the government to spend more money on research.
Miss Fernandes told health minister George Freeman £30m to £35m should be set aside annually to fund research – and he agreed that more needs to be done.
He said: ‘I think the case has been made that we need to look more carefully at what we can do.’
