A UKIP councillor’s hopes of being allowed to sit on a strategy board have been dashed at the first hurdle.

Newly-elected Cllr Christopher Wood, of Fareham Borough Council, put forward a motion to replace Tory councillor Arthur Mandry on the Daedalus Strategy Board.

He was defeated by 30 votes to one at his first council meeting.

Cllr Wood called the council ‘out of touch’ and added: ‘I’m disappointed the Tories and Lib Dems voted to deny my participation, despite the fact that the Daedalus airfield falls within the area I represent.’
