FEWER councillors could be elected to run an authority following a review.

The independent Local Government Boundary Commission for England has published its final recommendations for new electoral arrangements for Winchester City Council.

The review has recommended that Winchester – which includes Bishop’s Waltham, Hambledon and Denmead – should be represented by 45 city councillors in the future. That is 12 fewer than the current arrangement.

The recommendations follows an eight-week public consultation.

The updated boundaries could see a new Southwick and Boarhunt ward and villages around Hambledon and Soberton Heath part of a new Central Meon Valley ward. Denmead is set to remain its own ward. Parliament will make the final decision.
