Free careers night for armed forces leavers in Portsmouth

CAREER advice for those leaving the military is being offered by Portsmouth City Council.

The authority is staging an event next week to help those retiring from the armed forces find a new career.

Taking place on Thursday, March 1, the free session is being attended by industry experts – some of which are forces veterans.

They can give advice on businesses including hospitality, transport, construction and waste management.

It is being backed by business body Shaping Portsmouth. Stef Nienaltowski, director of the group, said: ‘This is complimenting what the armed forces are doing already with their transitional programme.

‘We want to make sure local companies are supporting this national programme.

‘There’s nothing better than being able to sit alongside British Aerospace, Bishops Printers or Wightlink and see what’s available locally.’

The event is at the Dennis Sciama Building on Burnaby Road, Portsea, from 5pm to 7pm. To book, see eventbrite.co.uk and search ‘Spring into a new career’.
