Gosport Borough Council vows to battle closure of HMS Sultan

GOSPORT Borough Council's leader has vowed to aim for the best deal for the town when the naval base closes down.

Councillor Mark Hook said the move axe HMS Sultan and Fort Blockhouse could rock Gosport’s economy.

He said the council will be pressing the Ministry of Defence to ensure new businesses spaces are created on the site, earmarked for closure by 2026.

‘While we can’t stop the land being sold you can be certain we’ll be lobbying government to make sure we get the best possible outcomes for Gosport and its residents,’ Cllr Hook said.
