MP CAROLINE Dinenage has welcomed Theresa May as the new leader of the Tory party.

Mrs May became prime minister last night after her only rival Andrea Leadsom pulled out of the contest earlier this week.

Ms Dinenage, who represents Gosport, said: ‘I’m delighted Theresa is the new prime minister.

‘Her wealth of experience and competency in office means she is ready to take on this massive responsibility.

‘I’m confident she will hit the ground running. I believe she is the person to unite the party and country through a challenging time and get Britain the best possible deal as she leads us out of the EU.’

As previously reported in The News, people in Gosport were interviewed by the BBC saying they were unhappy with Mrs May’s appointment.
