THE MP for Gosport welcomed a group of local women to Parliament in a bid to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Caroline Dinenage hosted the group in Westminster on Friday to celebrate women’s rights and achievements in politics.
The ladies from the Gosport group ‘Choices and Challenges’ had the chance to grill Ms Dinenage on life as a female MP.
They also enjoyed a tour of the Palace of Westminster with a focus on the historic fight for women’s rights and their current role in Parliament.
After the event the MP said she felt it went very well.
‘It was a great privilege to welcome these Gosport ladies to Parliament, to celebrate all that women have already achieved and to inspire them to do more,’ she said.
‘Many of the women admitted that they have never voted, but their fiery questions and interest in the history of women in Parliament showed a real passion for understanding politics and making a difference.’
Organiser Jacky Charman, said it was a very successful day: ‘It’s been a hugely educational and enjoyable day, which has enabled the women to find out more about themselves, their political rights and why it is important to vote.
‘Many of the women have been really moved by the experience, and inspired to learn more about our history and politics – while having a great deal of fun too.’
