Hampshire council calls for more transport funding

A COUNCIL has called on the government to cough up more funds for transport improvements in the area.

Hampshire County Council entertained the National Infrastructure Commission during a visit earlier this year and has called on it to persuade the government to grant more funding.

The council named further bus and light rail links between Portsmouth and Southampton, improved rail links between Hampshire and London and improved strategic routes between the county’s ports to the Midlands as some of their key points for transport improvements.

Councillor Roy Perry, leader of the council, said: ‘Hampshire’s sustainable growth is heavily dependent on improving its connectivity, both digital and mobile communications, and its physical connections through better road and rail infrastructure.’
