Extra bottle banks are being laid on for Hampshire residents to encourage recycling after Christmas.

The county council also said it would be emptying the bottle banks more frequently and that this year’s recycling rate was 36 per cent.

Residents can find their nearest bottle bank at recyclenow.com and Christmas trees can be recycled at household waste recycling centres.

These are open from 8am to 4pm over the festive period, except on January 1.

The council has also urged residents to avoid leaving gift wrapping in their recycling bins as it often cannot be recycled.
