Ms Mordaunt said: ‘The QA do not think that the proposed children’s hospital over at Southampton would have any negative impact on the QAs services, which is good as I’m keen to support the Solent area having its own specialist children’s hospital like Great Ormond Street.’

Stewart Dunn, chief executive of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, welcomed the news. He said: ‘We are delighted with his announcement that £2m in banking fines will be diverted to help fund children’s emergency hospital services in Southampton.
