Havant domestic abuse charity is praised by home secretary

EFFORTS by a Havant charity which seeks to protect victims of domestic abuse have been praised by the home secretary.

Amber Rudd lavished praise on the Southern Domestic Abuse Service (SDAS), throwing her weight behind the charity’s ‘buy a brick’ campaign.

The fundraiser aims to build a new women’s refuge to support more people who fall victim to domestic violence.

Her comments were made to Havant MP Alan Mak following a question by the politician in parliament.

Mrs Rudd said: ‘I join my honourable friend in congratulating southern Hampshire on taking action to protect women and to raise funds for refuges.

‘The support of local charities, councillors and local activists is often necessary to ensure that the women in their communities are kept safe.’

Mr Mak the home secretary’s backing was great, adding: ‘Since becoming an MP I’ve been a strong supporter of SDAS and I was delighted the home secretary backed their work in parliament following my question.’
