PLANS are under way to turn a former naval base into a business park.
Gosport Borough Council has unveiled its draft proposals for what it wants to see on the former HMS Daedalus airfield in Lee-on-the-Solent.
It includes clusters of marine, aviation and manufacturing businesses as well as housing and leisure areas.
If approved, the draft plan will be a major consideration when decisions are made on future planning applications for the Gosport part of the site. Residents must have their say before the consultation ends on March 4.
Cllr Michael Lane, chairman of the economic development sub-board, said: ‘The council’s key priority for Gosport’s future is founded upon job creation.
‘As well as large hangars for manufacturing, there are also some buildings which would easily lend themselves to hotel, conference or even sport and leisure facilities. Gosport will be interested in innovative proposals that meet this vision. This is one of the most important sites to be released and made available for development for many years.’
The plan can be viewed at the council’s planning department, Gosport Discovery Centre, or from tomorrow at gosport.gov.uk/daedalus-spd.
