Here's how the parking rules in your area compare to the rest of Portsmouth

Portsmouth City Council has decided that two parking zones are to be reinstated in Southsea, three years after they were removed by the previous council administration.

Portsmouth currently have 33 such zones around the city, with the first one established in 1999.

Residents are required to display a permit in their vehicle whenever it is parked in the zone.

Several more areas in the city have been earmarked for future implementation.

Each zone adheres to different conditions, tailor-made for the specific problems faced in that area.

Here is our full list of parking zones in Portsmouth, the number of spaces and permits for each one.

AA NEWBOLT ROAD Spaces: 12 Permits: 12

This was introduced to address issues residents had with large commercial vehicles parking in the road for long periods of time.

AB WYMERING Spaces: 459 Permits: 284

Restrictions in this zone have been designed to allow residents and their visitors to park, but also address problems caused from Queen Alexandra Hospital staff and visitors parking there for free (often for entire days) rather than using the paid-for hospital car parks.

BA PARK GROVE Spaces: 34 Permits: 19

This is a cul-de-sac in Cosham where residents had experienced problems with parking from commuters using Cosham train station and people working or visiting shops in Cosham High Street.

BB THE HEIGHTS Spaces: 26 Permits: 35

This zone was introduced to tackle issues residents highlighted with QA Hospital staff and visitors parking for free in the road (often for entire days) rather than using hospital car parks.

BC EAST COSHAM Spaces: 692 Permits: 338

This zone was introduced to address parking problems residents experienced caused by people working nearby parking in residential roads.

BD WINDSOR ROAD Spaces: 93 Permits: 71 This scheme is designed to allow residents and their visitors to park rather than those using the nearby train station. Some properties have off-road parking.

BE PORTSMOUTH ROAD Spaces: 8 Permits: 4

This road is close to Cosham railway station. Residents wanted parking to be available for themselves and their visitors, rather than those using the train station. There is some off-road parking.

BF PARK LANE Spaces: 135 Permits: 130

This zone was introduced to address issues residents were experiencing, caused by people who were visiting and working in Cosham High Street.

FA OLD COMMERCIAL ROAD (cul-de-sac) Spaces: 9 Permits: 35

This is to ensure parking is available for people who live in Old Commercial Road, rather than those using the port or visiting the nearby museum.  Residents can use their permits in the car park located nearby.

FB WHALE ISLAND WAY Spaces: 15 Permits: 19

This zone is in place as residents were experiencing difficulty parking, caused by people using the port and local angling club.

FC NORTH LANDPORT Spaces: 55 Permits: 46

This zone is to prevent people visiting the city centre and Cascades Shopping Centre from parking in residential areas. Lots of flats with some off road parking.

FD BEVIS ROAD Spaces: 976 Permits: 959

Residents requested this zone after experiencing difficulty parking where they live. Spaces were taken up by people who were using the local shopping areas, working in local businesses and visiting the port. In this area there is little off-road parking and a high number of commercial vehicles, which now use a local council-owned car park.

FE BUCKLERS COURT Spaces: 15 Permits: 15

This area is a cul-de-sac with little off-road parking. This zone was introduced to address issues residents had with people working nearby parking in the road for long periods of time.

FF RUDMORE COURT Spaces: 15 Permits: 15

This RPZ is in place to enable residents to park while preventing people parking long term when using the nearby port.

FG STAMSHAW SOUTH Spaces: 762 Permits: 758

This zone is in place to ensure residents can park when they need to, rather than for those who are using the local shopping areas, working nearby and using the port. There is little off-road parking.

GA FRATTON Spaces: 1,909 Permits: 1,867

Residents were having trouble parking near to where they live. This zone helps to ensure parking is available for residents, rather than those visiting local shopping areas; Fratton Park; St Mary's Hospital and the blocks of flats. There is little off-road parking, with high numbers of commercial vehicles.

GB ALVERSTONE ROAD Spaces: 170 Permits: 130

This road is in close proximity to an industrial estate on Rodney Road and other businesses nearby. Residents were experiencing issues with people working nearby parking in the road for long periods of time.

HA BAFFINS Spaces: 394 Permits: 327

Residents were experiencing difficulty parking because of the nearby hospital and the number of local businesses in the area. Some off-road parking is available.

HB CONISTON AVENUE Spaces: 14 Permits: 13

This zone was introduced because of the church, public house, car sales and doctors surgery nearby. With little off-road parking available, residents were finding it increasingly difficult to park.

JA PORTSEA Spaces: 307 Permits: 392

This is to enable residents to park, and to deter people from parking while visiting the various attractions in the area (Gunwharf, Dockyard and university buildings).

JB LANDPORT Spaces: 238 Permits: 143

Residents were affected by the number of people parking in the area to avoid paying for parking when visiting the city centre and local supermarket. This zone enables residents and their visitors to park. Lots of flats with some off road parking, including council-owned car parks.

JC HYDE PARK ROAD Spaces: 20 Permits: 8

This zone was introduced as residents were experiencing problems parking when they needed to because of many large employers nearby (civic offices, school, law courts and police station). No off-road parking.

JD NORTH PORTSEA Spaces: 191 Permits: 218

This is to enable residents to park, and to deter people from parking while visiting the various attractions in the area (Gunwharf, Dockyard and university buildings). In addition, there are blocks of flats with little parking nearby.

JE FRATTON WEST Spaces: 42 Permits: 15

This is to ensure parking is available for people who live there, rather than those using local shopping area and supermarket.

JF GARNIER STREET Spaces: 63 Permits: 45

This zone is to deter people using the nearby supermarket parking in the residential area.

KA OLD PORTSMOUTH Spaces: 620 Permits: 855

A RPZ is required to prevent tourists parking in residential areas when visiting the seafront, cathedral and Gunwharf Quays. Restricts parking for those using the Isle of Wight ferry. Many properties have off-road parking.

KB HAMBROOK Spaces: 113 Permits: 112

This area is within close proximity to Southsea seafront, school buildings and nearby businesses. There is little off-road parking.

KC WEST SOUTHSEA Spaces: 1,548 Permits: 2,123

This is a densely populated area of Southsea with a mixed demographic. At the west end there are many multi occupancy properties with some off-road parking, and the east end has larger properties with off-road parking. Residents requested a RPZ to prevent those using Southsea shopping or visiting the many seaside attractions from parking in residential roads.

KD CASTLE ROAD Spaces: 459 Permits: 483

The RPZ was introduced to allow residents to park, rather than those using Southsea shopping, local schools or visiting the many seaside attractions.

LA NORTH SOUTHSEA Spaces: 715 Permits: 783

This RPZ prevents commuter parking/local employee parking, and is in close proximity to shops and businesses (southern end). There is a high number of HMOs.

LB SOMERSTOWN Spaces: 999 Permits: 852

This RPZ is close to both the city centre and Southsea. Residents wanted a RPZ to prevent people who work in the area (the university, civic centre, commercial road) from taking up residents' parking, as well as those using the area for shopping.

MA LEOPOLD/BEATRICE Spaces: 82 Permits: 61

This RPZ allows residents to park where they live, as it restricts parking associated with businesses, pubs and entertainment venues. This is a cul-de-sac off Albert Road with very little off-road parking.

NA PRIORSDEAN Spaces: 48 Permits: 30

Residents wanted a zone to prevent hospital staff and visitors from parking in the residential road.
