TWENTY-EIGHT employees at Hampshire County Council were paid more than £100,000 last year, according to a report out today.
An analysis by the TaxPayers’ Alliance revealed that, on a national scale, 2,525 council staff earn more than £100,000.
Hampshire is fourth in the league table, with Camden at the top with 40 staff earning more than £100,000 for 2011-2012.
The number of high earners at Hampshire fell from the previous year when there were 38 employees.
At Portsmouth City Council, the report says there were seven staff earning over £100,000 in 2011-2012, down from 10 the previous year.
Matthew Sinclair, alliance chief executive, said: ‘It is good news that the number of senior council staff making more than £100,000 a year is finally falling, although that may only be because many authorities have finished paying eye-watering redundancy bills.
‘Sadly, too many local authorities are still increasing the number of highly paid staff.’
