Historic partnership for Hampshire and Isle of Wight fire services gets green light
COUNCILLORS last night approved plans for a partnership which could save the fire service £1.2m over the next three years.
The proposals would see Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service’s chief fire officer also run Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
Supporters say it will improve services without the loss of any frontline staff or the closure of any stations.
The chief fire officer and his team will take on managerial and budgetary responsibility.
Isle of Wight councillors last agreed the plans at the full council meeting last night.
