HMS Sultan personnel help out at Stem event

ROYAL Navy personnel from HMS Sultan took part in a career event promoting Stem subjects.

The Big Bang at Solent gives young people the opportunity to learn about science, technology, engineering and maths.

Personnel from HMS Sultan’s Royal Naval Air Engineering and Survival Equipment School and its Defence School of Marine Engineering represented the Royal Navy at the event in Southampton.

More than 1,000 11 to 16-year-olds travelled from schools across the Solent area.

Lieutenant Paul Mulroy, from HMS Sultan in Gosport, said: ‘We went to the event to help provide answers to some of the burning questions that the students may have.

‘We explained the many branch options within engineering that may be open to them and we also helped the students get their own ideas down on to paper.’

The Royal Navy’s display stand included a Lynx Mk8 helicopter, with children taking the opportunity to climb aboard to explore the aircraft.
