THE ownership of a protected beauty spot is set to be transferred on Monday.

Hampshire County Council has owned Catherington Down since 1963 after being given the area as a gift by a landowner.

Horndean Parish Council manages the land, but the freehold is set to be transferred from the county council to the parish.

The parish council is keen to have full ownership so that the hill can retain its protected status as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. No money is changing hands in the transfer.

The meeting takes place at 7pm at Jubilee Hall, in Crouch Lane, Horndean.
