Portsmouth University Chancellor Sandi Toksvig has hinted that she might stand for Mayor of London next year.

The TV and radio personality told a meeting that she ‘couldn’t be worse than Boris’.

She was speaking at a fundraising event for the Women’s Equality Party, of which she is co-founder with journalist Catherine Mayer.

Mayer told the audience of 400 women at the Conway Hall in London: “I was sat on the edge of my bed last night and I was thinking. ‘Who would make a good candidate for mayor?’”

Toksvig responded: “Well I couldn’t be worse than Boris, although I’m just as blonde.

“I haven’t taken to a zip wire yet though”.
