TRAVELLERS who set up camp on a play area are closer to being evicted.

Officers from Havant Borough Council will go to court today to ask for a repossession order for Bitterne Park, off Bitterne Close, in Leigh Park.

As reported, the group moved on to the grassy area last Thursday.

Several caravans and vehicles have been on the site since then.

The group did not need to use force or damage any property to get on to the site, which is near Staunton Country Park.

The field belongs to Havant Borough Council and is popular with children and families.

A spokeswoman for the council said: ‘We have now got a court date for the repossession order of Bitterne Close play area. This hearing will take place at Fareham Magistrates’ Court.’
