Lib Dems target housing in Fareham

THE opposition in Fareham say they are looking to make a stand against development.

Lib Dem Shaun Cunningham was voted into the Portchester East ward, replacing Lib Dem David Norris, on Fareham Borough Council. He will be joined by new Lib Dem Maryam Brady, who won Fareham East following the former party leader Paul Whittle’s departure. They join existing councillors Katrina Trott and Roger Price to form the opposition to the 24-strong Tory council.

The two new faces have reinvigorated the party, with Cllr Cunningham looking to make a stand against housing developments such as the one proposed for Cranleigh Road.

Cllr Cunningham, who has frequently spoken out against new town Welborne, said: ‘I want to make a stand on some of the fundamental issues. Improving infrastructure is a major goal of mine.’

Ukip also gained a councillor on the council with Carolyn Heneghan voted in to Stubbington. She joins Chris Wood.

She said she would make a stand against the proposed Newlands housing estate.
