Following yesterday’s voting day, seats are up for grabs at Hampshire County Council and boroughs across the Solent region.

Today, the county council and Fareham Borough Council will be totting up the votes and welcoming politicians into a whole host of seats in wards and divisions.

All 78 seats in Hampshire are up for grabs, with a further 15 seats in Fareham.

Hampshire County Council oversees education, health and infrastructure projects, including roadworks.

Meanwhile, the borough councils are responsible for day-to-day issues such as bin collections, housing and planning applications.

Counts for Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant are due to take place tomorrow.

Peter Chegwyn holds Gosport seat

Liberal Democrat leader in Gosport, Peter Chegwyn, has maintained his seat in the Hardway division, winning by more than 300 votes from Conservative candidate, Patrick Bergin.

Cllr Price reflects on 50 years in politics

Councillor Roger Price, Fareham Borough Councillor for Portchester East and once again elected to Hampshire County Council, is celebrating 50 years as an elected offical.

Cllr Price has served as a 50 years as a borough councillor, 28 years as a county councillor, and was a magistrate for 37 years.

He said: 'Today is 50 years since the result of my first election.

'Looking back, it is a big number. I think it's really been down to working for the people. Representing people is what it's all about - but you can have national swings that throw it for you.’

Final results from Rushmoor

The Conservatives have held onto Aldershot South and Farnborough North, thanks to Bill Withers and Roz Chadd respectively.

This means that from the Rushmoor area, four of the county councillors will be Conservative, with one Labour councillor after Alex Crawford claimed Aldershot North.

Conservatives hold Lee-on-the-Solent

Conservative candidate Graham Burgess has won by a landslide in the Lee division, representing Lee-on-the-Solent and the surrounding area at Hampshire County Council.

He received 2,922 votes, almost triple that of Liberal Democrat candidate Kirsten Bradley in second place.

First Fareham Borough Council seats announced

Warsash: Conservative victory with Mike Ford - 1,746 votes

Sarisbury: Conservative victory with Joanne Bull - 1,529 votes

Liberal Democrats hold two seats in Eastleigh

The Liberal Democrats have held two seats in Eastleigh, it has been confirmed.

Tanya Park won Eastleigh North with 1,629 votes, with Wayne Irish receiving 2,161 votes in Eastleigh South.

Fareham Borough Council tweets results

Stephen Philpott re-elected in Bridgemary

Conservative candidate Stephen Philpott has held onto the Bridgemary division at Hampshire County Council.

He received 2,238 votes, with Liberal Democrat Steve Hammond receiving 1,951 votes.

Cllr Hayre gains Stubbington ward in Fareham

The Conservatives have seen their first gain of the evening by taking the Stubbington ward from an independent councillor.

Newly-elected Councillor Pal Hayre, who also retained her seat on Hampshire County Council, has taken the seat from Carolyn Heneghan.

It is the third time Cllr Hayre has tried to win the Stubbington seat.

Cllr Hayre, who has lived in the Stubbington area for 25 years, said: 'My team have worked so hard to make this possible. And for the last four years I have been on Hampshire County Council and I feel that I have really shown the residents how committed I am to the area.

The new councillor is committed to taking up residents' concerns about long-standing concerns about the strategic gap and anti-social behaviour.

She said: 'I am very aware residents have put their trust in me.'
