Major £10m works to build dual carriageway in Titchfield

A MAJOR £10m project to build a dual carriageway is set to start next month.

Hampshire County Council will carry out the work over 18 months, which will see the A27 widened between the Segensworth roundabout and Titchfield gyratory to become two lanes in each direction.

A third lane will be introduced to the nearside of the A27 Southampton Road approach to the Segensworth roundabout and an off-road pedestrian and cycle path will be installed along the north side of the A27 Southampton Road between the crossing at Titchfield Park Road and Mill Lane.

The work is set to get under way from Monday, October 24.

Councillor Rob Humby, the council’s executive member for environment and transport, said: ‘This a major piece of work which will have many benefits to residents, businesses and those travelling through the area.

‘By easing congestion through increasing the capacity of the road network, we know it will encourage further economic growth and investment.

‘The £10m scheme has been designed to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, as well as enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists.’

The scheme has been promoted and developed by the county council and
jointly funded by the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership.

Residents can meet representatives from the council and from contractor Mildren at Titchfield Community Centre on October 5 at Titchfield Community Centre from 12.30pm until 6pm.
