The event comes as the government continues its negotiations with the EU, with Theresa May under increasing pressure to secure a deal before Britain begins the process to cut ties with Brussels in March.

Mr Taylor, who campaigned for Remain during the referendum and backs the People's Vote campaign, said: '˜There is obvious discontent with the way Brexit is being handled from those who voted Remain and those who voted Leave alike.

'˜It is vital that politicians are listening to the people who are going to be feeling the effects of the decisions taken in the next few months for generations to come.'

Mr Taylor will be joined by guest speaker David Rowen, chairman of Portsmouth and Chichester for Europe.

The event is open to all and will run from 6pm to 7.30pm at the university's Richmond Building, in Portland Street.

Tickets are free but people are urged to book online at eventbrite.co.ukÂ
