Money up for grabs for cultural and art events in Winchester district

A GRANT scheme for festivals, major cultural events and arts activities is back by popular demand.

Winchester City Council is offering grants of up to £2,000 for projects in the Winchester district, which includes Denmead, Bishop’s Waltham, Wickham and Whiteley, that meet the aims of its cultural strategy.

The grants could help communities to organise cultural and creative events or activities that will encourage economic prosperity.

Projects could also sustain and develop the area’s visitor appeal, attract new investment to the district or improve social well-being.

Kate Cloud, head of economy and arts at the council, said: ‘We are continuing the grants this year due to their popularity in 2015, when many organisations benefited from funding.

‘These included festivals such as Winchester Festival, Bishop’s Waltham Festival, Hat Fair Fringe and Winchester Wine Festival, as well as the Denmead Proms in the Park events.

‘These grants complement the arts advisory service we offer, and other cultural activities across the city.’

Cultural organisations must be based and active within the Winchester City Council area, and show evidence of need for grant funding.

Priority will be given to organisations which have not received cultural grant funding previously.
