PORTSMOUTH North MP Penny Mordaunt has hit the top spot in a quest to find the ‘most attractive MP in Parliament’.

But the Tory, who won her seat for the first time in May 2010, has admitted she finds it ‘embarrassing’ and ‘silly’.

She topped the poll at a website where members of the public vote to choose the politician – male or female – they believe is most attractive.

Ms Mordaunt said: ‘I’ve been told about it, but haven’t visited the site. It’s a bit silly really, I’m not sure if it lives up to what it claims to be doing. It’s a bit embarrassing.’

The site was purportedly set up by Made In Chelsea cast member Francis Boulle.

Its founder claims on the site: ‘In addition to my wanting to create a fun and memorable tool to help the British public get to know their Members of Parliament, I thought it would be an interesting opportunity to hold the first parliamentary beauty contest and find out once which MPs have the most sex-appeal.

‘Although I expect this to offend some people, it was never my intention.’

Elsewhere in this area, Winchester’s Tory MP Steve Brine hit tenth spot, and Gosport Tory Caroline Dinenage 26th.

Havant MP and cabinet minister David Willetts was our region’s lowest-rated politician, at 603rd of 648th.

But Ms Mordaunt did concede there was one advantage to her placing.

She said; ‘I’ve always told my other half how lucky he is.

‘I suppose this is objective proof.’
