A BY-ELECTION will take place following the death of a Denmead councillor.

Hampshire County Council has organised the election following the death of Tory Councillor Freddie Allgood.

As reported in The News, Mr Allgood, a former journalist, died in November at the age of 78.

He represented a number of villages – including Denmead, Boarhunt, Southwick, Whiteley, Wickham, and Knowle – for the southern parishes ward at Hampshire County Council.

He also represented Denmead from 1983 to 2010 on Winchester City Council.

The by-election will be held on Thursday, February 9 and polling hours are from 7am to 10pm at St James’ Church, High Street, Southwick.

Postal votes must be received by Wednesday, January 25.
