A DATE has been set for the unveiling of Portsmouth’s new Lord Mayor.

The mayor-making ceremony will be held during the annual meeting of Portsmouth City Council in the main hall of Portsmouth Guildhall on Monday, May 20.

The mayor-elect is Councillor Lynne Stagg, who is a Liberal Democrat member for Baffins. She has been serving as the deputy mayor over the past year.

The Lord Mayor will receive the Portsmouth sword, which is a symbol of the link between the Royal Navy and Portsmouth.

People who have made outstanding contributions to the city will also be recognised and presented with a civic award and there will be the first presentation of a Young Persons’ Civic Award.

There will be performances by The Band of HM Royal Marines Collingwood and Portsmouth Voices.

The Deputy Lord Mayor and Deputy Lady Mayoress will also be appointed. The outgoing Lord Mayor is Councillor Frank Jonas.

The ceremony starts at 11am and is expected to finish at 12.30pm.
