Newland's planning application finally submitted fully to Fareham Borough Council

The plan for the estate, called Newlands, in Peak Lane, Stubbington, had stalled while developers gathered information and worked to overcome local objections.

Residents were outraged when developer Hallam Land put in a planning application to Fareham Borough Council in February 2014 to build 1,550 homes on fields off Peak Lane, in Stubbington.

They said it would cause unnecessary pressure on local roads and schools, and they objected to it being built on green fields, on land designated as strategic gap between Fareham and Gosport.

A petition and a demonstration was held at the site, and hundreds of residents turned up to object.

Hallam revised this plan, dropping the housing numbers to 1,050 last June, but the council could not proceed with the application as it said it was missing information.

However, council leader Sean Woodward said yesterday that all these details had now been received and that the application would now go to a planning committee for decision this summer.

He said: ‘The application is now live and valid. We will be notifying the public this week, and we will be holding two special Community Action Team meetings so that people can ask questions and find out more.’

These meetings will take place:

n Monday, February 29 – 6pm at Holy Rood Church, in Gosport Road, Stubbington.

n Tuesday, March 8 – 7pm at Ferneham Hall, Osborn Road, Fareham.
