LIB-DEM leader Nick Clegg has made assurances that his party will look ‘thoroughly’ into complaints about Portsmouth party members.

It comes after Tim Farron, Lib-Dem party president, wrote a letter to Cllr Eleanor Scott saying a review will be held into the party locally.

It is being carried out on the basis of concerns Cllr Scott raised about inappropriate behaviour within the party and Lib Dem council group – which she quit earlier this year.

Now deputy prime minister Mr Clegg has written to Cllr Scott reiterating a review is to be held and appropriate action taken if necessary.

He wrote: ‘I hope you are assured that the party is taking appropriate action and that the concerns you have raised will be looked into thoroughly.

‘Any issues identified will be addressed.’

As reported, Mr Clegg has declared disgraced Portsmouth South MP Mike Hancock will be expelled from the Lib Dems after he admitted forging an ‘inappropriate friendship’ with a female constituent.

Mr Hancock apologised for his actions as part of a statement approved by the High Court.
