Councillor John Ferrett, leader of the Labour group on Portsmouth City Council, said Nigel Farage’s legacy is ‘injecting the poison of xenophobia and racism’ into politics.

Cllr Ferrett posted the message on Twitter after news of Mr Farage’s decision to stand down was announced.

In his post, the ward member for Paulsgrove said: ‘The legacy of @Nigel_Farage is injecting the poison of xenophobia and racism into mainstream political discourse and making it acceptable.’
