Have your say

A CHANGE in the law could soon see Fareham close its housing waiting list to ‘outsiders’.

Fareham Borough Council is asking people to comment on proposed changes to how they allocate social housing.

The changes include only allowing people with a connection to Fareham to join the housing waiting list.

Executive member for health and housing, Councillor Brian Bayford said: ‘Previously, all local councils had to strictly follow national rules on how to prioritise housing.

‘But now a change in the law has given us some flexibility to give higher priority to certain people.

‘This consultation is an opportunity for people to help make sure we have got the new policy for allocating housing right.’

Once the new policy is approved, everybody registered on the existing housing waiting list will have to reapply.

The new policy could be up and running by the summer.
