Operation Watershed is back in West Sussex

COMMUNITIES are being encouraged to bid for a slice of £500,000 set aside to guard against flooding.

West Sussex County Council’s Operation Watershed is now in its third year.

Between 2013 and 2015, the fund helped 287 community flooding projects.

Work completed included ditch maintenance, providing new drainage channels and repairing pipes and culverts.

Grants were awarded for information leaflets, events about flooding issues, and to train volunteers.

Operation Watershed also aided the establishment of 21 local Flood Action Groups.

Councillor John O’Brien said: ‘Operation Watershed helped protect thousands of homes from flooding and other flood related issues.

‘It was so well received by communities and we were keen to bring it back again.

‘If your community has a flood-related issue which you think Operation Watershed can help with, please get in touch.’

All applications need support from their local elected County Councillor.
