Organisers of Southsea BeachBuggin' hope to resurrect event

THE organisers of a popular Southsea event hope to resurrect their plans to host it again this year.

Allyson O’Connor and Dave Weston have been running the BeachBuggin’ VW car show for 17 years on Southsea Common.

They had announced earlier this month that this year’s event was cancelled, claiming Portsmouth City Council had been unprofessional when dealing with them.

But the pair are now optimistic about it going ahead as they hope to meet with council leader Donna Jones.

Allyson said: ‘Councillor Jones said it is a great event and she wants to meet with us so that we can try and make it happen.

‘We’ve put a message online to say we’re cancelling the show but we will be meeting with Donna Jones soon and I’m really hoping that she can help us sort this out.’
