A UNIFORMED community officer will be hired to deter trouble in a town.

Bishop’s Waltham Parish Council has agreed to hire its own Accredited Community Support Officer (ACSO) to tackle anti-social behaviour. The council had to step in after the ACSO scheme was dropped by Hampshire County Council.

One full-time or two part-time officers will be shared with Denmead and Swanmore parish councils at a cost of up to £32,000 per year. The ACSO will have the power to confiscate alcohol and cigarettes from underage people, issue warnings and give out penalty notices.
