TWO community schemes in Gosport are among many to benefit from a cash boost.
In total 18 sports and culture organisations across the county have been awarded grants totalling £36,278 from Hampshire County Council.
Stokes Bay parkrun in Gosport has received £3,000 to help arrange a free weekly 5k run, which will be aimed at all people interested in running – whether new or experienced.
Motiv8 South received £2,000 to support its music project aimed at 13 to 19-year-olds.
The project will use music to explore topics such as legal highs, bullying, and employability with the aim of helping young people get on in life.
Councillor Keith Chapman awarded the cash through the council’s Community Activity grants.
Its purpose is to provide general support to groups and organisations which encourage and provide opportunities for people.
And it is also for communities to participate in cultural and recreational activities.
Cllr Chapman said: ‘These groups play an important role in supporting our work, particularly in the current economic climate as financial pressures continue.
‘It’s more important than ever to support organisations that promote sport and assist the most vulnerable in our society, and I’m pleased we’ve been able to make a contribution.’
