Penny Mordaunt's day of destiny as she awaits decision over future of her government role

Penny Mordaunt, appointed the armed forces minister last year under former PM David Cameron, could either hold on to or lose to her position as sweeping changes are made at the top of the Tory hierarchy.

It comes after outspoken politician Boris Johnson was appointed foreign secretary and George Osborne was sacked as chancellor and replaced with Philip Hammond. Michael Fallon has held on to his defence secretary role.

Mrs May, revealed as the country’s second female prime minister in the wake of Mr Cameron’s resignation this week post-Brexit, is set to announce who else will form her cabinet.
