Portsmouth City Council to borrow £2.4m to bolster leisure attractions
PLANS to spend £2.4m on maintaining leisure facilities in Portsmouth have been approved.
The cash will be a boost to BH Live when the firm starts managing the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre, Portsmouth Tennis Centre, Eastney Swimming Pool, Wimbledon Park Sports Centre and Charter Community Sports Centre from February 1.
Tory culture boss Linda Symes said BH Live would go on to pay the city back, but the council is giving the funds initially as it can borrow money more cheaply being a local authority. The council’s director of finance said the new BH Live contract will provide ‘considerable savings’.
The Lib Dems praised the fact they brought in BH Live to rescue the Pyramids Centre.
